A company dedicated to fitting out some of the world’s most rugged and durable off-road campers is using an equally reliable product to provide hot water on the road, even where mains power is not available.

Uluru campers – which provides top quality campers, trailers and caravans designed for harsh Australian environments – is installing the Australian- designed Aus J Hot Water Solutions Duoetto MK2 water heater into its campers, so that its customers can enjoy comfortable hot water wherever they adventure.

Temperatures in the Australian outback can reach more than 50 degrees Celsius – at which point birds start falling out of the sky – so the water heater was built to withstand extreme temperatures, including California and the Middle East, where they have also been sold.

“The fact that the Duoetto can switch between 12V and 240V is a major advantage for our fit-outs. It means out customers can travel to remote areas and still have hot water available for cleaning, showering and other uses,” says Uluru Campers National Sales Manager, TJ.

“Another advantage is that the Duoetto is simple and intuitive to install, so we can connect it up to our campers efficiently,” he said.

The Uluru Campers team has been fitting the Duoetto MK2 to its ultra-durable Conqueror off-road camper range, which has been designed to handle extreme conditions found in Australia, from vast arid deserts to tropical areas subject to large rainfall.

“We love that the Duoetto is an Australian-designed product, and the service from Jay [Managing Director, Aus J Hot Water Solutions] has been outstanding. He goes out of his way to help us meet deadlines, or increase production to meet customer demand,” says TJ.

“Ever since Covid hit, the domestic travel market has boomed in Australia. We’ve seen a strong uptake in our campers, meaning we needed more heaters quickly. Aus J provided this for us efficiently, allowing us to meet customer deadlines,” he said.

Jay has also seen the huge shift in the market in the past year, as adventurers and travel enthusiasts began to seek alternate ways to get around post-Covid.

“RVs have always been popular with travelling crowds, whether it’s a family, a young couple or a pair of grey nomads. Now, the level of sophistication available on these mobile homes is quite remarkable,” he said.

“The camper trailers customised by Uluru Campers are some of the toughest in the market. The manufacturers have experience in military off-road vehicles, so you know they are going to last, and will perform in harsh conditions. And the fit-outs are superb for Australian conditions.”

The latest Duoettos – which typically retail for around $A470 – feature a digital temperature control on the side for local and export markets that like their controls clear and simple, including the Middle East and Asia, North America, Africa and Europe, including the UK.

“Automatic sensors allow switching to 12V when mains power is not available, enabling the Duoetto to deliver ample hot water in remote areas such as campsites or on boats where mains power is unavailable, which it often is in large areas of major RV, marine and work vehicle markets,” says Mr King, who designs the water heaters himself and ensures production to Australian standards of toughness and quality.

Duoetto MK2 product background and features

The Duoetto MK2 has a number of upgrades on the previous version, designed to give the new water heater even greater longevity than the original, which has become OEM equipment on major campers in Australia and in export markets because of its functionality and reliability in service over a wide range of use and climatic conditions. Upgrades include:

The Duoetto MK2 comes with internationally recognised Australian WaterMark accreditation, which means that it passed tests and requirements regarding its suitability for supplying water for human consumption. These tests encompass taste, smell, toxins and corrosive effects on plumbing and pipework.

Drawing a miniscule 4.2 amps at 240V (1000w) and 25 amps at 12v (300w), the 409 x 262 x 267mm Duoetto MK2 retains the strengths of its predecessor, including:
